Introducing ‘The Safari Index’ publication
South Africa 2011

“The Safari Index – South Africa 2011” publication will be a 256 page high quality soft-cover glossy showcasing South African lodges that have been methodically reviewed and rated by African Array consultants. Premier and undiscovered safari lodges and camps are displayed over one to two page spreads with over one hundred South African lodges and numerous reserves and parks having been assessed. The reviews consist of an informative description of the safari experience a guest is likely to have at each particular lodge or camp. There is a rating summary for each lodge and reserve which assesses aspects from lodging, service and facilities to wildlife specific ratings such as birding, big five and photography potential. In addition there are detailed reserve and national park overviews. The uniform layout, simplistic rating summaries and information tables make the Safari Index the perfect reference guide. It essentially allows the reader to be able to compare properties with ease and find his or her ideal safari destination based on their particular preferences and tastes.

The pricing structure is targeted in the mid-price market between periodic magazines or annuals and current safari themed coffee table books. The cover price will be R150 per copy and the publication will be available for sale through the following channels:

  • Through premier properties listed in the publication (over 100) to sell in their individual curio shops and / or to be displayed in the rooms and common areas.
  • To book stores (such as Exclusive Books and CNA) and transport hubs in South Africa.
  • Online sales through the Index websites, the African Array website and international online bookstores such as Amazon and Kalahari.net.

There will be an initial print run of 5000 copies. Each advertisement will be one full A4 page. The readership for the publication is expected to be significant (around 50 000 high end local and international travellers) given the fact that numerous copies will be available for guest’s perusal in the rooms and common areas of lodges on the Index.
